Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Very Important for Your Child’s Brain and Heart Development

Fish oils are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids that consists of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These hormone-like substances are not only important for cellular functions in the body, but are responsible for regulating blood pressure, muscle contractibility and inflammation.

Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats. They have an incredible impact on the brain and mental health, especially for mild memory loss and depression. Therefore, in the human diet, EPA and DHA are almost exclusively found in fatty fish and fish oil.

There are many foods which can help keep your brain healthy: fruits and vegetables, because they have antioxidants that help protect your brain from damage. It’s best to incorporate a well-balanced diet to help support your brain health and boost your alertness, memory, and mood by strategically including these foods in your diet.

Omega-3s are Immensely Important for Children

Omega 3 is low in saturated fat, high in protein and an excellent source of nutrition for a developing baby, and highly beneficial to expectant mothers. Mothers can supplement fish oils during pregnancy, and while breastfeeding to ensure proper nervous system development in their child. Prenatal DHA is a unique combination of the essential Omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA.

DHA, in particular, is absolutely essential for brain and heart development in children. Today, children who do not consume the recommended amounts of fish, may not be getting enough EPA and DHA in their diets. Consequently, for kids who are very young, supplementing with Omega-3 can assure they receive sufficient daily requirements. Fish oil in a liquid format is advised for those who don’t eat enough fish or are picky eaters, but need the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids.

Omega-3 Supplementation

Fish oil supplementation for children may help reduce symptoms of behavioral disorders, including hyperactivity, inattention, and aggression. It supports cognitive health and brain function, and supports the development of brain, eyes, and nerves in children up to 2 years of age. It also maintains

cardiovascular health in children. So, besides the importance for maintaining your child’s overall health, omega-3s are beneficial for kids’ brain health and also aid sleep quality, and reduce symptoms of ADHD and asthma. Since the human body is unable to make DHA efficiently from other omega-3 fatty acids, supplemental intake is important, if required amounts are not met with food. DHA Liquid for kids contain 300 mg of DHA and 200 mg of EPA. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are critical for normal brain function and development throughout all stages of life.
